Overview
(This review is based on a visit from June 2024, it’s possible the access has since improved, and I’d certainly hope it has!) Once inside, Mowgli is a brilliant venue. It has a great atmosphere, tasty cocktails, and really lovely food. But the access experience before even getting through the door was deeply frustrating. I’d read online that there was a doorbell you could press to request the portable ramp, but there was none in sight. I called the number listed on Google, struggled to get through to the branch I needed, called the central Mowgli number and the woman I spoke to struggled to reach them too. She was lovely and very apologetic, but couldn’t connect through either. It was a hot day and I felt awkward and quite stuck, waiting outside on the pavement. Eventually, a server came out with a ramp. I don’t know if someone had flagged me to him or if the central number had finally gotten through. When I mentioned the missing bell, he just shrugged and said he didn’t know anything about it. That lack of care was honestly more disappointing than the wait itself. It’s a real shame, because I’d love to return. The food and service once inside were great. But unless the access system is improved, I’m not sure I’d come back without backup.
Transport & Parking
It’s in the city centre, so very well served by public transport.
Access
There is a portable ramp, but the process for actually getting it is impractical and disorganised. If you're unaccompanied and use a wheelchair, you'd be stuck outside unless someone happens to spot you, though the windows aren't big enough for this so it's very unlikely that this is the case. The phone goes unanswered, and the doorbell that's mentioned online simply doesn't exist. Inside, the tables are at a good height for wheelchair users. There are also some cool elevated seating areas, which aren’t accessible but are visually impressive. The restaurant also has great gluten-free options, they don’t feel like a lesser version of the main dishes and are really flavourful. It's a busy place so can be quite loud, but not unbearable and it's a nice, bright atmosphere.
Toilets
I didn’t try or check the accessible loos, I was honestly too put off by the ramp experience to go looking.
Staff
Our server inside was warm, friendly, and gave great food and drink recommendations. However, the staff member who brought out the ramp was pretty dismissive. When I mentioned the doorbell, he cut me off, shrugged, and said, “I don’t know.” No attempt at showing concern or curiosity. This was more insulting than the experience of waiting outside in the hot sun on a busy street.
