Excellent
This is a fine, old Stately House set in the grounds of a large estate. It is administered by the National Trust. Not only is it a stunning building with extensive parkland but it goes out of its way to make itself accessible to all those with mobility problems. As with all NT properties, there is a well written Assessibilty Statement online. They have a fleet of well maintained mobility scooters which vary from small vehicles for the house and garden to ones which are far more robust and capable of doing the park (open countryside) trails. All these vehicles are free to use. The main house, well worth a look, is accessible on the ground floor only. They have a lift to the first floor but it is presently out of order with long term problems. Apparently it is due to be replaced in due course.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
This 4 star rating is based upon facilities for physically disabled people. They have plenty of well positioned ramps although the thresholds at some of the doorways were a little challenging. The only lift is, at present, out of order, awaiting renewal.
Parking & Transport
Excellent
The main car park was spacious and well laid out. There are, however, plenty of disabled spaces at the rear of the main building. They are accessed through an alternative entrance and signs from the main road should be followed. The spaces themselves are near to the main facilities.
Accessible Toilets
Excellent
There were plenty of public toilets available and all of them had a separate disabled cubicles. They were clean, well equipped with grab rails and alarms etc. and we're big enough for wheelchairs to turn (albeit a little cramped. Hot water freely available.
Staff
Excellent
It is rare to find a venue where staff are as friendly, supportive and accommodating as they are here. It really was most impressive.s
Additional Information
This is a visit not to be missed. There is plenty to do and see and it is highly recommended.
