Overview
This kiosk was in the central part of Chapelfield Gardens by the bandstand. There were lots of benches around the bandstand where you could sit but there were also tables and chairs surrounding the kiosk where you could sit. It seemed like their signature items were their huge toasties and their range of ice creams. They had a hedgehog ice cream, which was an ice cream cone with four flakes stuck in like spikes which looked brilliant! The kiosk counter was really high up so I did have to look up a lot to order and reach up a fair amount to pay. But once I’d ordered the staff then offered to bring my items over to me at my table which was really helpful. It meant I didn’t have to reach as high to get my stuff or have to manage my items and push myself over to a table. So I appreciated that offer and help. I decided to get their cheese toastie and it was incredible. It was really crispy and flavoursome. I’d highly recommend it for lunch or a quick snack.
Transport & Parking
The park didn’t have any dedicated parking but there was some on-street parking around it. It was also very close to Chantry Place shopping centre which has a large car park. There weren’t any bus stops nearby either.
Access
The kiosk is in the centre of Chapelfield Gardens. There are a lot of ways into the park, and from what I saw, they were all level with the street. Some had a bit of an incline to navigate but they didn’t have any steps. The paths are all tarmacked but some did have potholes and were quite uneven as a result. But for the most part it was easy to navigate the pathways. The kiosk itself had a very high counter which was a bit of a struggle to deal with in my seated position in my wheelchair. But the staff made sure to assist however they could to make things easier. There were tables and chairs around the kiosk which were made from some sort of plastic, it seemed. It meant that they were pretty easy to move around as you needed. They weren’t so light that the tables felt unstable though.
Toilets
There was a block of toilets in the park which included an accessible toilet but the block had been closed. The council’s webpage about the park also lets you know that the toilets here are currently closed too. The toilets inside Chantry Place shopping centre would be a good option close to the park.
Staff
The staff were really lovely and really eager to help in any way. Especially because the counter was so high they were really keen to make sure they could help make things easier to manage.
