    Good once we got inside

I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: a hidden impairment, accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.

I went to a concert here in November and the help/support once we were actually inside was pretty good. I'd booked an accessible seat and a free carer's pass so we were seated on a raised access platform with a ramp. It was at the back of the room but we could still see clearly over most people's heads. There were members of staff checking to see if we needed anything and a person to take orders for the bar so that we didn't have to try and get through the crowds, although this person did vanish after about half an hour and didn't reappear. However, getting into the venue was a whole other experience. The entrance for people with access needs was poorly labeled with only one sign on a lamppost pointing to where we needed to be, the entrance was a (step free) fire door with no signage at all so very easily missed, and we were left outside in the cold after all of the other ticket holders had been let inside into the foyer. We were let straight into the room where we would be seated once inside but it really felt like all of the people using the accessible entrance were forgotten about and we were only told that we would be let in after the soundcheck after several of the people with us that could move about easier went and asked members of staff what was happening. The staff also forgot to give any of us stamps which caused some confusion for them when I tried to get back into the main room after leaving to use the toilet. I would also say that the "accessible" loo (in the foyer) isn't very accessible because it's so small. If I was in my powerchair I wouldn't have been able to get through the door, and as it was I struggled with my rollator. There definitely wasn't enough space in there for my powerchair and a carer. Overall the treatment we received from the staff was better than most places I've been but the building itself was pretty standard for places that list themselves as accessible .

No automatic doors Poor signage No lifts The access platform had a ramp and signs on asking people to not stand in the way No seating downstairs at all that wasn't a fold-out chair on the access platform and people sat on the floor were asked to stand

    Accessible facilities: Step-free entrance

    Parking & Transport

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

The nearest car park was free to use after 7pm and you got 1 hour free parking with a blue badge. However, you had to check in and out and the only option for this and for paying was with a smart phone. If you don't have your bank card saved on your phone you can't pay. I wouldn't consider this accessible.

    Accessible Toilets

    Poor

The doorway of the accessible toilet is quite narrow and difficult to get a mobility aid through. Wheelchairs may not be able to get through the door. There were grab rails and a red chord, but this didn't reach the floor. There were no mirrors in the toilet. Very small toilet room, not much longer than my sofa. It would be a squeeze for more than one person. There was a sanitary bin but this was out of reach of the toilet. There was a general bin that you had to manually lift the lid of. There was a hand dryer but no paper towels or anything else. The lock was one where you had to lift the handle of the door to lock. The toilet needed a key to open but there was a member of staff outside with the key at all times. This member of staff also held the door open for entry.

    Staff

    Good

Staff were very friendly and helpful, checking if we needed anything often. They even told people that were standing around the access platform not to put their drinks on it and threatened to remove a couple that kept using the platform as a table. I was always spoken to directly, the staff never spoke to my companion over me.
