Overview
What a lovely overnight stay, there’s not a lot to do, but we simply relaxed, unwind, and enjoyed excellent food, just simply sitting around together. This is a lovely place for disabled and older citizens to feel at ease, no cares for a couple of days, peace and quiet, comfortable surroundings, and really nice food. What we did, and we suggest you think about doing the same, is we took advantage of their “special offer”. that includes an overnight stay, dinner on your first night, and a full breakfast the next morning. This was excellent value, what we got for the cost was amazing. We took the weekend offer, arriving Sunday and departing late afternoon on the Monday. This was the cheapest way and boy did we enjoy the break. So look out for this Offer, find the cheapest day, which of course will be OFF SEASON visits, and try it. So join us now as we offer you our review of Oatlands Park. Follow us by using our photos. Scroll down to see them. This is the first of five reviews all about the Oatlands weekend we shared with them, but we suggest you read the other two reviews as well when we first visited two years ago., and read the history of Oatlands, and what to expect. AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE, IN THE “SEARCH “ BOX, TYPE IN OATLANDS PARK. PHOTOS ONE AND TWO. The grade two listed building of Oatlands Park Gates. Built mid 18th century, perhaps 1747-49 by architect William Kent for Henry Pelham-Clinton, 9th Earl of Lincoln, and later, Duke of Newcastle, who owned the estate at that time. The gates today, were moved from their original spot in 1858, when the house was converted to become a hotel. It then incorporated two side lodges built on each side of the gate, probably to provide security to the hotels ground. The two Portland Stone Ashlar pedimented pier pillers, has wrought iron and cast iron gates and railings, with two smaller side gates. The piers have a rectangular round headed Top on each, with the Coat of Arms of the Pelham-Clinton family, which includes Greyhounds and a shield crest topped by ball finials. The wrought iron gates include gilded spearhead finials and decorated scrollwork (This is the ironwork above each gateway ) which are later additions to the original gates. A few yards away from these gates you will find the well signed board for the driveway to Oatlands park, and by keeping left of the housing estate and passing the golf course you will arrive at the hotel. PHOTOS THREE AND FOUR Oatlands Park PHOTOS SEVEN TO TEN The pleasant entrance into hotel, with potted shrubs in large containers offer a feeling of class as you approach. Mind you, the main wooden heavy door could do with a touch of paint, but the stonework and pillers are well looked after. PHOTOS ELEVEN TO SIXTEEN. RECEPTION AND MAIN AREA is very attractive, nicely furnished with modern coloured paintwork, and wrought iron work throughout. Easy on the eye, with comfortable seating areas. PHOTOS SEVENTEEN EIGHTEEN Reception desk is tucked out of the way in the open RECEPTION , while we found the staff extremely helpful, offering full support as needed. The three clocks above the reception desk give the time in three countries around the world. PHOTOS NINETEEN AND TWENTY Gaining access to our overnight room involved a short walk from reception on the ground floor along towards the restaurant away ahead of us, and through a pull handle door in restaurant into a short passage and to our very nice room with walk in shower. ============================== For a good overall feel for Oatlands Park Hotel, may we suggest you read our other Four reviews 437. Transport & Parking
We suggest you arrive along the M25 route, coming off at exit 11 for A320 Chersley sign, and follow A320 towards Weybridge along the A 3050 which will take you past the GATES and then into Oatlands Park. As approaching hotel, drive right up to the entrance, where you will find three disabled bays, and in front of these are number of bays which would be handy for our senior citizens, rather that the walk from the carpark. ( IF YOU LET RECEPTION KNOW THE DAY BEFORE ARRIVING, that you are disabled, they will reserve a bay for you ). Access
Three disabled bays at the front of hotels entrance will then allow a nice easy short push for your wheelchair on the level, to enter hotel. Usually a staff member will quickly come out to open the pull push wooden heavy door for you. It’s all level throughout the hotel inside. If staying overnight and you have a room upstairs, there is a lift available. As regards the facilities you are able to see everywhere as it’s all level inside.
Toilets
This is located right next to reception and Bar area, the first door on you right. We feel it’s just about large enough to take almost all chairs and scooters with spinning room to turn. Very large chairs would need to check before arriving. It is very clean, with pull cord and grab handles, and well maintained. PHOTOS SEE OUR OTHER REVIEW FOR “BAR 1509”
