Beautiful Town

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair
Overview
A lovely German town, full of character but also with a modern twist. Site of the famous Deuches Ekt (where the Mosel and Rhine rivers meet) and a great base for exploring this romantic wine growing region of Germany. The old and new parts of town are seperated which allows the older tourist area to maintain its character. The cable car to the castle with magnificant views is 100% accassesable by them adapting one of the cars to take wheelchairs. Disabled get reduced rates and carer goes free. German ideas of a dropped kerb needs a rethink though.
Transport & Parking
Parking at pay and display on streets is free for blue badge holders, but you might need to pay in car parks. If using disabled parking bay, make sure it isnt marked or reserved for a particular house number or car. German dropped kerbs are fewer and much higher than british but do have rounded edges. Kerbs are lower at marked crossings.
Access
Older buildings and shops may not have level access. Some pavements are very narrow and dropped kerbs can be awkward. Lots of cobbled streetsbut alsoplenty of more even routes. Cable car to cadtle and castle itself fully accessable. Worth trying to get a Eurokey (europes version of our radar key) - not easy to get but some loos and lifts need it.
Toilets
Loos generally are nice and clean but some are only accessable with a Eurokey.
Staff
Police, shop keepers and people in general are friendly and helpful. Most speak some english.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
You can see most of the old town and castle in a day. If worried about where you left the car, take a picture of a street sign or land mark. Locals will always point you back in the right direction.
