Excellent
Gorgeous Tudor Mansion. Free entry but they appreciate a donation. Lots to see and all laid out in a very interesting way. A few activities for children inside. No playground but plenty of space to run around outdoors. The grounds are really lovely. Very much enjoyed our visit. Takes 2-3 hours to look around.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Step free entrance. Cafe, shop and toilets all near entrances. Grounds all level with smooth wide paths and several benches. Indoors there are a few thresholds to manage. One room had two steps down then two steps back up, but one of the staff opened the outside door to that room so I could have step free entrance. There is a lift to access higher floors but it is locked for safety reasons. A member of staff took us up and down and gave us all the time we needed to look around. Plenty of seating was a big help. Only one room was not accessible to me as it was up a steep, narrow staircase, but it is used as a quiet room for anyone who needs to use it, eg autism overwhelm. A few steepish ramps upstairs in the attics, and the floor bows a little,
Parking & Transport
Excellent
We went by car. 5 disabled spaces in Pay and Display car park. Not free for Blue Badge, but not expensive ( we paid £2.50 for 3 hours). Car park very spacious but the disabled spaces are right down near to the hall, and missing out any cobbled areas, which was brilliant. Entrance a short pleasant walk through part of the gardens.
Accessible Toilets
Excellent
I used the one near the entrance but there were others, including on higher floors. Very clean with all the grab rails and alarm cord. Good to see there were paper towels as well as a hand drier.
Staff
Excellent
The staff were amazing. We were welcomed at the door, and this guide, Steve, gave us a map and gave a little intro. He later took us up in the lifts so we could see the whole house. The cafe was limited in menu but really lovely food, served with a smile. We saw some staff working with a visiting primary school, and they were in costume and interacting really well, age-appropriate.
