Pleasureland Arbroath is a small indoor amusement arcade found near the seafront in Arbroath. It has many of the games and machines one would expect to find in an arcade. You can either drop in for some electronic excitement or book the arcade for kids parties and events. There is an accessible toilet at this venue but access inside the loo is far from ideal.

    Disabled Access In and Around

I popped into the arcade, solely to use the loo but I thought I'd take a look around while I was there. The entrance to the arcade is on a slight incline, at the top of which is a set of manual metal and glass doors. A member of staff was quick to open the door for me, which I appreciated. I found navigating my way around the arcade machines straightforward with plenty of clearance space for my wheelchair. However the carpetted flooring was a bit of a challenge to push over in my chair. I didn't notice any further accessibility features or alternative formats in use. The machines can be rather noisy, with lots of flashing lights, which may make the venue unsuitable for some.

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

Parking can be found outside on Queen's Drive. There are no marked bays, just a long stretch of road where people can park. The absence of markings and bays suggests it is free to park here, however there is a risk of being unable to access your car if someone parks to the rear of your Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV). The nearest bus stop is 320 metres away on Millgate Loan where the number 50 operates.

Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking

    Accessible Toilets

    Poor

In looking for the accessible toilet, a member of staff highlighted the women's toilet. There was a ramp leading up to the loo and just about enough space to move a manual wheelchair. The accessible cubicle is not the best. It has an outward opening door with the toilet around to the left. The door is secured by sliding the lock. The toilet pan is on the rear wall, but despite a grabrail being installed it has terrible access. The pan is set in the centre of the wall which provides no space for a left or right side transfer. The grabrail actually takes up vital space. Had the pan been installed closer to either wall it would have given room for a transfer on one side at least. The flush is on the wall behind and the red cord was absent on my visit. There is no wash basin in the cubicle which meant I had to transfer to my chair, push to the row of sinks outside the cubicle then wash my hands there. The sinks are placed at a standing height with a lever operated tap. There is no mirror above either sink, but there is one slightly further along the counter top which had a wet floor sign in the way. The cubicle could easily fit several people and has a baby change table. All in all it is lacking in access for an accessible toilet.

The staff were very helpful. I can't fault them.
