This facility typifies my experience of EV charging, in that accessibility isn't a focus. The insistence upon protective barriers around the machines, and the absence of cables and access features may make use challenging for some.

Disabled Access In and Around

Average

Access routes around the chargers are good, as they’re set within a well-maintained car park. However, the machines themselves are a little restricted. The charging terminal on the right has a rail around it, meaning anyone connecting the cables will need to reach over. The terminal on the left has a short rail in front, but is clear on either side, which is where cables can be connected. If positioned correctly, some people using mobility devices may be able to charge their car, provided they don’t park too close to the terminal. Payment is made using the PayPoint app, so reaching the card reader isn’t an issue. Users must bring their own cables, and no alternative formats are in use.

There are four EV charging bays at this location, with two terminals – one a large rectangular unit and the other a podium-style charging unit. Despite the difference in design, both offer 7kW Type 2 charging. Accessible parking spaces are available near the entrance and in other areas of the car park. The Berwick Hoppa bus service runs to this location, and there’s also a petrol station nearby.
