4.5

Overview

There are two entrances to this cafe: either down a steep flight of stairs, or enter the adjacent building and take a lift down. The cafe is on the flat, very nice accessible toilet, good food, including fresh, home-baked scones, helpful and efficient staff and - most important of all - very reasonable prices.

Transport & Parking

3.5

I didn't pay attention to the parking, as I took the bus to London Road, then walked about five minutes.

Access

4.5

Great if you take the lift from the adjoining building, otherwise the steps are quite steep, but clearly marked with yellow paint. Seating fine, I didn't look for an induction loop or alternative format menus, but feel sure that the staff would help if needed. There were also leaflets about sighted tests and support, available free on request.

Toilets

4.5

Very nice, clean accessible toilet. I thought it was a bit snug, it might be a tight fit for a carer to be in as well.

Staff

5

The staff were very helpful and efficient. All volunteer staff are partially sighted. Sarah, who looks after the cafe, had made the scones the morning I visited and they were delicious, even my picky husband said how nice they were.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The cafe is quite roomy, several little groups of seats, and also a separate room, which can be used for groups. Well ventilated, with outdoor seating as well.

Photos

Freshly made scones, three varieties. The cheese one had a dash of cayenne - delicious. One group of chairs, quite comfortable And another group of tables, very comfortable padded seats. In the background is the glass door to a separate room, which can be used for groups. This is what I had: very nice scrambled egg roll, cup of tea. Cost £5.25, which I thought was very reasonable. For the tea, they provided hot water and a tea bag, so I could have it as strong (or as weak) as I liked. RNIB drinks menu. And lunch food menu. My scrambled egg roll was lovely. Outside seating, with a view of the steps (they are brightly marked with yellow paint, but don't worry, there is a lift at the adjacent entrance). And, finally a view of the accessible toilet.
