Overview

The hotel accessible rooms were disappointing for someone who is a full time wheelchair user. The bed is a double bed, positioned between 2 fixed bedside tables, and between two walls (one of which is a partial wall sticking out into the room). If a full time wheelchair user there is no room to position the chair near the bed to support standing or seated transfers. We managed by turning the bed 90 degrees and wedging between the bedside tables. The wet room was small, we knew there was not shower chair available and so took our own but there wasn't enough room to position and transfer between, so no access to the shower during our stay. There is a small fold down shower stool. Similar situation with the toilet. We had heard good things about the hotel and so were disappointed in the access in the room, however in hindsight we'd heard from ambulatory wheelchair user pals. There were plenty of hand bars in the bathroom to support and I'm sure it's accessible to some. If you need to share a room with a carer/someone you don't share a double bed with they have to use an uncomfortable sofa bed which needs to be folded up for room to move a wheelchair or to access to small window with a sea view. The staff were excellent, attentive and helpful. All rooms were upstairs and we found the lifts just big enough for 1 person in a chair and 3 others. The restaurant for all meals was accessible and again the staff were really good.

Transport & Parking

We drove and directly opposite reception were 3 blue badge parking spaces (with additional space around them). The could not be booked in advance and were first come first serve - we were fine each time. There is space at the reception to potentially drop off and park in the carpark if that's an option to you,

Staff

Staff in the hotel and restaurant were excellent, accommodating and kind. We also did the tour of the RNLI college which was accessible to wheelchair users (some steep slopes) and very interesting.
