Rutherglen library is located on Rutherglen Main Street, adjacent to the Town Hall.

Accessibility

The main library including the Active IT department is on the ground floor, with the upper levels containing the IT training suite and Heritage Centre; these floors are accessible via lift. Rutherglen library runs many children’s activities including Bookbug sessions – details on this can be found by contacting the branch. The library also has free Wifi access. The building has street level access with no ramps required, and automatic double doors which open into the library. The upper levels, including the Heritage Centre, are accessible via lift.

Toilets

There is a single toilet for customers at the back of the library, which is wheelchair accessible and does not require a key or code to open. There are separate toilets in other areas of the library behind code locked doors for customers taking part in classes on other levels. Libraries across South Lanarkshire are part of Period Positive and have free sanitary products available for any visitors.

Staff

Staff at Rutherglen library have completed dementia and trauma awareness training, and the children’s assistant is also trained in Makaton.
