Scottish Sculpture Workshop

1 Main Street, Huntly, AB54 4JN, United Kingdom | 01464861372 | Website

Venue Description

Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) is situated at the North end of Lumsden’s Main Street. When it was established in 1979 by artist and educator, Fred Bushe, it was the first sculpture-specific artist workshop to be developed in the UK. SSW is a making and thinking facility – offering the time, space, support and facilities to artists from all backgrounds to develop their practice, with an emphasis on experimentation and exploration of sculpture within the expanded field. Through a series of curated projects, collaboration and skill exchanges between visual artists, local specialists and the wider North East Scotland community, SSW promotes a dialogue that considers our rural locale within a globalised society. The core programme of SSW is based around the facilitation of artist Residencies, the delivery of Projects and the provision of Facilities, as well as offering Open Access to workshops for all.

Accessibility

SSW is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming workspace, free from physical and social barriers. Our site has a good degree of level access for a wheelchair user, with wide doorways and sight lines through the main building. With the exception of one building, all the resources on site are fully wheelchair accessible. Please note there are a number of changes in levels and ground surfaces, which may make movement around the site challenging for some, including those who are visually impaired. Our accommodation is currently not wheelchair accessible, although we are looking to improve on this with an upcoming capital development. In our wood, metal and casting workshops we have a variety of different workstations at differing heights. Visitors with access requirements will work closely with our technicians to ensure they are set up in a comfortable and safe working environment for their specific needs. Our toilets have a good level of access and are wheelchair accessible.
