Overview
St Brigid's Garden Well is a tranquil and beautiful space with step free access. I loved my visit. There are many holy wells dedicated to Brigid, saint and pagan Celtic goddess, across Ireland. This review is for the Well which is just outside Kildare town centre, just off Tully Road, and close to the Solas Bhride Centre, the National Stud and Japanese Gardens.
Transport & Parking
I arrived by taxi from Kildare Town Centre, and there are no buses that stop by the well. We parked in the small car park next to the well. The nearest railway station is Kildare, which has step free access and is about 1.5+ miles away. The route to the well is mainly flat and includes country roads with a pavement on one side. There are fields on one or both sides for much of the route, which is lovely to look at.
Access
The garden well is quite small and on level ground. It is approached by crossing a pedestrian bridge over a stream. There is a paved path which leads into the lawn garden, well and Brigid's statue. There are some benches.
Toilets
There are no toilets.
Staff
There was no staff about but the garden is beautifully maintained.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Brigid's Day and Imbolc are celebrated on 1 February, so if visiting then, it may be busy. Look out in the stream for Brigid's slipper and the “clooty” tree, decorated with ribbons and pieces of cloth as offerings, see photos below. I really enjoyed my visit and would happily return.
