    Sweetheart Abbey

    About

You can visit the cloister, but due to access restrictions in place as a precautionary measure while we undertake high level masonry inspections, there is currently no visitor access to the rest of the site. 1 Apr to 30 Sept: Daily, 10am to 4.30pm (last entry 4pm) 1 Oct to 31 Mar: Closed A monument to human and devine love, Sweetheart Abbey was named for its founder, Lady Dervorgilla, who was buried here with the embalmed heart of her beloved husband. War inflicted much damage to the buildings. But the abbey church, with a stone effigy of the founder, survives almost intact.
