Good

Changing Places toilets are in short supply in this region of the Borders, so this is very welcome facility, even if it is a little smaller than most Changing Places. Located in a supermarket, parking is plentiful and there's the added bonus of being able to pick up the essentials during your visit.

Disabled Access In and Around

Average

The venue has level acess throughout and automatic doors at the entrance. Signage is poor, with no indication that there's a Changing Places toilet from the outside – which is a shame for such a vital facility.

Accessible parking spaces can be found at the entrance and in other areas of the car park. EV facilities are available, but they are to the standard we've come to expect from public EV chargers. The Berwick Hoppa bus service runs to this location and there's a petrol station nearby.

Accessible Toilets

Good

The toilet is located at the far end of the building. If you turn right as you enter and go past the checkouts, you'll find the entrance on the left wall. Entry requires a RADAR key and the door opens outwards. The door can be secured by lifting the handle. It’s quite compact, but there’s enough space for a wheelchair or power chair user and several additional people. There’s a ceiling track hoist, an adjustable changing bed and a height-adjustable sink. The sink has a lever-style mixer tap with a soap dispenser on the wall and a hand dryer on the left. There are no grab rails on either side of the sink. There are contrasting grab rails on either side of the toilet, each with a toilet roll holder and a contrasting toilet seat. The red emergency cord hangs to the left of the toilet when seated. An unusual feature is that there are colostomy shelves on either side of the toilet, something I’ve not seen before. These are used to hold cleaning products and an unreasonable amount of loo roll, which is disappointing. A second red cord is also accessible by the door and there's a portable privacy screen. Overall, it’s a decent toilet built to a good standard.
