The Beacon shopping centre houses Eastbourne’s largest collection of retail outlets under one roof. With an integral multi-storey car park the Beacon has three floors of shops, cafes, restaurants and a multiplex cinema all providing level access for the less able. Shopmobility is a mobility scooter, powerchair and class 1 wheelchair hire facility immediately outside the rear entrance at the eastern end of the centre and alongside the centrally situated accessible toilets is a Changing Place toilet facility.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Access for disabled people is excellent with electrically operated doors to the centre and all shops etc within having open frontages. Wheelchair accessible toilet and Changing Places facilities are centrally situated and Radar key operated.
Parking & Transport
Good
Blue badge parking is available in the integral multi-storey car park and at nearby on-street parking areas. A second multi-storey car park nearby also has spaces for blue badge holders. Regular bus services pass by the front of the Beacon and an adjacent main line station housing taxi ranks provides for ease of access to transport facilities.
Accessible Toilets
Good
Wheelchair accessible toilets are equipped with basic facilities and manoeuvring room is adequate but could be restrictive for scooters larger wheelchairs.
Staff
Good
The Beacon is adequately staffed with security officers and cleaners to maintain satisfactory standards. Generally these staff and those employed by the various retailers are polite and co-operative when queries/problems arise.
Additional Information
The Beacon is a clean, uncluttered environment for shopping enjoying refreshments. The restaurants and cinema areas were not operational at the time of review but I am confident the centre management will ensure the highest standards of customer service are achieved and maintained. The variety of shops is well balanced with most tastes being catered for under one roof.
