Overview

This is a lovely old Cotswold Inn, standing in the delightful village of Willesey, just out of Broadway, and built with that attractive honey coloured stone that line the little streets of WILLESLEY.. THE BELL, MAIN STREET, WILLESLEY, BROADWAY, WR12 7PJ www.bellatwillesley.com The area known as “Cotswold” has a line of limestone hills running south from Worcestershire, through Gloucestershire and down to Bath. The area has been traditionally sheep rearing country, and it was the wool trade that helped the small towns and delightful villages, such as WILLESLEY to become an attractive area. It was a number of local stone quarries on these hills that produced the warm-looking yellow honey coloured limestone used to build the towns and villages. The delightful but very quiet village of WILLESLEY, lies close to the boundary with Worcestershire, It is indeed an old village, but beautifully kept, and although it is not a tourist destination, it’s one of those charming but hidden little places you come across now and again. It has a pub, a primary school, a large park area, and at the heart of the Main Street there is a lovely and attractive duck pond, an ideal resting place on one of those warm sunny days, which lies just across the street from The Bell inn. This was first of all a 14th century farmhouse, converted to a small inn, known as the “Bluebell inn” before being renamed “The Bell” It is a delightful small 17th century inn, a typical Cotswold stone building in the centre of the village. It has been a pub for one hundred and forty years, and in all that time has only had five landlords. Alongside the car park you will see its old bell, used to around the late 1960’s, as a means for the village crier to give out a message around the village. During January 2022, the Broadway Hunt visited The Bell, attracting many visitors We personally encourage you to go and visit WILLESLEY and pop in for a drink or to enjoy dining here, well worth the short drive from Broadway.
