Poor access

Overview

Cannot fault the food, it was lovely. Had a lovely meal but was let down by the wheelchair access. Access when entering and leaving the restaurant was poor. I managed but wouldn’t recommend to wheelchair users. Once inside it was ok, but accessing the disabled loo was tight.

Transport & Parking

4 disabled parking spots right near pub that also serve the train station. Not sure about bus access but it is right by Windsor Riverside train station. We drove, but got the following access info for the station off of trainline: “ There is level access to all platforms until around 20:00. After 20:00 access to the station is via three steps and wheelchair users may require assistance.”

Access

Access to get in from the drop kerb was blocked by garden furniture. It was lightweight furniture so it was easy for my brother to move out the way but was disappointing. In the part of the restaurant containing the bar, there’s 2 flat levels that are connected by a ramp (not too steep) and wooden floors. The tables are nicely spaced so there’s room to get around. Tight access to disabled loo because of the coat rack, needs some good steering in a manual wheelchair. For reference, my wheelchair width is 48cm/18.9” excluding the wheels. You would have to ask staff to move coat racks for a power chair. I was very disappointed leaving the restaurant, they had put an extra table covering most of the back entrance/exit doors (the wheelchair accessible one next to the disabled parking). I had to ask another customer to move and I scraped along the door. I managed to squeeze through just about but only because the left side of my wheelchair could fit under the table, and my wheelchair was narrow enough to fit through the section of single door that wasn’t blocked. It was uncomfortable for everyone and clearly they just hadn’t put thought into that being the wheelchair exit.

Disabled toilet / baby changing was on the smaller side, absolutely fine for me in my manual chair but would struggle for space with a carer. Rails on the wall by the loo but not a drop down bar the other side. Emergency cord was tucked behind a grab bar (this may have been another customer who did it) so untucked it and placed a Euan’s Guide card on it.
