Promenade and Golden Mile - Las Americas

Overview

Las Americas is one of the main tourist destinations of Tenerife. Probably the liveliest area, but still family friendly. The beach promenade links directly with the next areas, it's easy to go from Los Christianos on one side of Las Americas, straight to Playa Adeje on the other (and further if you wish!) The 'Golden Mile' is the main Street/strip of Las Americas, with various shops, restaurants and bars.

Transport & Parking

Many people will likely be on their holidays and staying in a nearby hotel, so may not require transport. There are several small car parks in Last Americas each of which have several marked disabled spaces. In general, I noticed there are a few disabled parking bays on most of the main/bigger streets, including on the Golden Mile. The local buses (green ones) all can lower to allow people on/off easier. They have two sets of doors, one at the front where the driver is, and another in the middle of the bus. The middle set are wider and would provide better access, there are marked disabled spaces within the buses

Access

4.5

The entire length of beachfront esplanade is very suitable for those using wheelchairs/scooters, and has regular ramps to the beach itself (see my other review of Playa de Las Vistas accessible beach). The esplanade links various different towns/areas, so it's possible to wander along from one to the next, enjoying the beach views. Wherever there are steps on the main streets, there are also ramps (though you may be joined by local children playing on their rollerblades or scooters!) Shops tend to be on different levels, some have steps up or down from the street. Initially these may look inaccessible, but usually there is an alternative ramped route, though you may need to look for it. Some shops - especially with all the holiday souvenirs - can have quite crowded displays, so may need to take care when moving round. In general, Tenerife seems to welcome people with mobility difficulties, and there are always lots of people about using wheelchairs, scooters and buggys. These are all also readily available to rent whether for a few hours of a few weeks.

Toilets

There are accessible toilets at the accessible beach in Las Americas and at several other points along the esplanade. Several of the bigger shops/shopping centres also have accessible toilets. I was not aware of any changing places toilets.

N/A as not specific staff, however, general positive attitude towards people with mobility difficulties

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Various wheelchairs, scooters etc are easy to hire - I had never seen double scooters (for two people) before! The main tourist areas seem accessible for people with mobility difficulties. Im unsure about the smaller towns /places visited by fewer tourists. Have a happy holiday!!!
