“One of the finest contemporary art museums in Europe.” The Independent With over 1,600 square metres of light-filled gallery spaces, The Hepworth Wakefield is the largest purpose-built exhibition space outside London. The gallery brings together work from Wakefield’s art collection, exhibitions by contemporary artists and rarely seen works by Barbara Hepworth. With a café, shop, learning studios, unique conference venue, and exciting events programme, the gallery is a place to explore art, architecture and your imagination.

Accessibility

Our staff are trained in all aspects of visitor care and are here to help you during your visit. Our Visitor Experience team can be found across the gallery to offer information on artworks, the building and facilities. Whatever you need, please ask for their assistance during your visit or feel free to get in touch beforehand. We are fully accessible to wheelchair users, scooters and pushchairs and has ramp access to all areas. The Hepworth Wakefield is entered on the ground level via automatic doors, with a lift to the gallery spaces on the first floor. The visitor facilities are on the ground floor (café, shop and toilets). The Calder is accessed via a ramp, through automatic doors. The gallery has a Changing Places toilet that is located within the gallery’s Clore Learning Studios on the ground floor, an area of the building used primarily by families and schools. The facility has a height adjustable adult sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system and adequate space in the changing area for the person with additional needs and up to two carers.

Accessible Performances

Events take place in our ground floor Auditorium and Learning Studios. Both spaces have level access from the foyer and are easily accessible by a wheelchair user. Toilets

The main public toilets are on the ground floor to the right hand side of the Information Desk at the rear of the foyer. This area of public toilets includes standard toilets plus disabled facilities and a baby change area. There are 3 disabled toilets throughout the building, one on the ground floor, one in Gallery 6 and another in the Learning Studios. All disabled toilets have a functional emergency alarm, coat hooks and wall mounted rails. The gallery has a Changing Places toilet that is located within the gallery’s Clore Learning Studios on the ground floor, an area of the building used primarily by families and schools. The facility has a height adjustable adult sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system and adequate space in the changing area for the person with additional needs and up to two carers.
