The Long Shop Museum is a unique example of industrial innovation in the heart of rural Suffolk! The museum is housed in the world’s first building purpose built to contain a production line process. Home to a fascinating array of products manufactured at the Leiston Works, it also tells the remarkable story of the Garrett dynasty, and the community that built up around the works over two hundred years. It is open for 7 months of the year with an active event programme for all ages which strengthens local ties and celebrates British engineering and manufacturing.

Disabled Access at The Long Shop Museum

Visitors with disabilities and carers pay a concessionary rate (please see https://www.longshopmuseum.co.uk/opening-and-admission/ for details). Free disabled parking near the entrance for blue badge holders. There is level access to most of our galleries and displays, however care is required. Surfaces are sometimes uneven and outside there are some gravelled areas. The first floor of the Long Shop is only accessible by an original, steep stairway. Toilets features at The Long Shop Museum

The museum currently has three lavatories available - all are on the ground floor and offer step-free access. All are individual cubicle, gender-neutral, toilets with hand-wash facilities. All cubicles have sufficient space for at least two people (accommodating a parent or carer), and one has full wheelchair access rails with transfer from the right as you face the toilet. Two of the toilets have secure surfaces that can be used for baby changing, or for other requirements where a visitor may need to place items on a clean flat surface (anti-bacterial wipes are provided). These facilities are clearly indicated on the doors of each of the three toilets. All toilets have sanitary disposal bags and bins, and a supply of products to help cope with the odd leak.

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements is available within the main public areas.
