Venue Description

Built in 1882 by Sefton Parry, The Playhouse Theatre is an 822 seat theatre situated over three levels. Re-built in 1905 after the next door wall of Charing Cross Station fell into the theatre's ceiling, The Playhouse has been home to a number of well known actors and actresses. Cyril Maude, Julie Walters and Richard O'Brien have all walked the boards here at The Playhouse, whilst notable productions include Spamalot, Rocky Horror Show Live, Matthew Perry's The End of Longing and now showing An Inspector Calls.

Accessibility

There are 3 steps through double doors from street level to the foyer - a ramp is available. The Box Office is to your left on street level. There are no further steps into stalls seating, 28 steps to Dress Circle seats and 82 to Upper Circle seats. Staircases have highlights and handrails. There is hard flooring in the foyer for wheeled traffic. The theatre is open 45 minutes prior to the show and the auditorium 30 minutes before the performance. There are wheelchair spaces at rows G and J in the stalls-a companion can sit next to the customer. There are a further 6 transfer spaces available.

Accessible Performances

Accessible performances depend on the production on at the theatre at the time. At least one audio described, BSL or caption performance is attempted to be put on during a show's run. Accessible performances will be announced when they are booked in. We provide a Visual Story for Autistic patrons, available on request.

Our access toilet is found at stalls level. This is in the foyer, 3 steps up from street level - a ramp is available. The toilet is adapted for wheelchair use. Non-adapted toilets are in the basement Bar, Dress circle and Upper circle.
