Venue Description

This great little award-winning Museum is aimed at 6 to 12 year olds and their families and is situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for 36 years. The Museum has three fun and fact-packed interactive galleries. Boy Gallery focuses on Roald Dahl’s school days. Solo Gallery features his original Writing Hut. The Story Centre offers all sorts of fantabulous creative displays and activities to get involved with. In the school holidays and at weekends, an exciting range of workshops, events and free storytelling sessions take place. Free craft activities are always on offer, while the Village and Countryside Trails lead intrepid visitors around Great Missenden to see the places that inspired Roald Dahl and feature in the stories.

Accessibility

At the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre we welcome all visitors and aim to do everything we can to make sure every visitor has a buzzwangling time. The Museum and Shop are all fully wheel - and push chair accessible, as we are a step-free site. The Café has a step but there is a bell for assistance and a ramp is available. We have three fully accessible loos. We have a manual wheelchair which you may borrow, though we do advise calling in advance to ensure it is available. Carers receive free admission.

We are a Registered Museum, and a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction In 2013, we were awarded Gold by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Visit England's Best Small Visitor Attraction 2008 Tourism South East's ExSEllence Award for Best Small Tourist Attraction 2007

Toilets

There is one disabled access toilet to the left of the entrance and one down the main corridor, through the double doors and on the left. The site is small and easy to navigate. The toilets are on the ground floor and access is through the Museum. All disabled access toilets are unisex and have an emergency pull cord and response as well as PIRs to switch the lights on. The toilet doors ate single leaf and side hung. The larger of the two disabled toilets has available floor space of 165cm by 205cm. The smaller has available floor space of 150cm by 240cm.

Staff

All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training.
