Portimão has made special efforts and made this route creating a wheelchair wide concrete strip through old cobbled streets so wheelchair users can have a smooth ride and as far as I know is the only major town in the Algarve to have carried out these special provisions. Quite difficult as a lot of work was involved adapting the old pedestrian walkways. Beaches around Portimão have over the last 10 years been provided with 3 meter wide wooden boardwalks suitable for wheelusers spending millions on kilometer long walkways at Praia da Rocha and Alvor allowing disabled visitors to cross beaches and get close to the Ocean.
