A bit dated but did the job

    Date of visit: October 2026

I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets and moving around.

I use or have experience of: disabled toilet, wheelchair

A view of the hotel from the outside. It is a red brick building across multiple floors with a gabled roofed building in the centre and two flat roof buildings extending out on either side. From the centre is a blue awning extending from the main entrance of the building that has the Travelodge logoThe beds in the hotel had a small amount of space beneath them. They had small shelves on either side and plug sockets in the middle of the headboard The bedroom which has the beds on the right and a desk on the left The adapted bathroom with a lowered bath on the right. The toilet with grab rails is towards the left and the sink is on the left

I was visiting the area as I needed a repair to my power attachment so we booked this hotel which was fairly nearby. It seemed like quite an old hotel so there were some aspects that were dated and made things a little bit tricky, such as no automatic doors at the entrance, a very small lift and physical keys for the hotel rooms. The room itself was quite spacious, it had an adapted bathroom with a lowered bath and plenty of space in the bedroom area. There was a car park attached to the hotel with three accessible parking spaces and hotel guests got a discount on the parking costs. One of the main reasons we stayed was because they were also pet-friendly so we were able to stay with our dog.

    Disabled Access In and Around

The main entrance had no automatic doors so I was grateful to be travelling with my husband who could get the doors for me. The doors weren’t super heavy so I was able to manage opening them myself but there was a bit of a lip at the entrance which made it a bit trickier to hold the door and get myself inside at the same time. The reception had a very high desk so it was a bit difficult to talk to the person behind the counter. There was a fire door that required a fob to access which then led to the lift and stairs. The stairs had grab rails on either side. The lift was incredibly small and felt very old. The hotel rooms were all accessed with physical keys rather than keycards. The doors were also really heavy which was a bit of a struggle when you had to keep the key turned and had to really push the door at the same time. Inside the room there was a fair amount of space so I was able to turn and maneuver my wheelchair pretty well. There was a desk with a chair by it and a small amount of hanging space. The beds had some empty space beneath them which may accommodate the base of a hoist, but I’m not familiar with the dimensions of them myself. There were plug sockets by the head of the beds and USB-A ports too. The bathroom was an adapted bathroom with a lowered bath. There were grab rails around the toilet and the bath and there was a red emergency cord in the bathroom too. There was also a lowered sink with a mirror above it. The placement of the soap dispenser in relation to the sink was quite awkward for me to reach in my wheelchair, especially because I find reaching to the left a bit tricky. The rooms also had a kettle and some basic tea and coffee supplies.

Accessible facilities: Lift to all areas, Step-free entrance

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

There is a car park at the hotel but there is a cost for parking here. Hotel guests do get a slightly discounted rate and parking is paid for in the hotel reception. There were three accessible parking spaces in the car park.

Accessible facilities: Dedicated on-site parking, Drop-off or pick up point

The staff were quite friendly. But we only really interacted with them when we checked in.
