I spent two nights at this ideally placed Travelodge. With a McDonalds across the car park and a Morrisons – complete with a petrol station –, along with an Aldi and a Costa nearby, it has many of the essentials you might need. Accessible rooms are available on the ground floor only as there is no lift to the first floor. For a budget hotel in a great location you could do much worse.

Disabled Access In and Around

Parked in the car park at the front of the hotel. The car park is tarmacked and there is a lowered kerb with tactile markings just ahead of the automatic sliding doors at the entrance. As you go in, the reception desk is on the left and the door through to the hallway and stairwell is straight ahead. This door opens inward and is manual. You need to tap your key card to unlock it which can be a bit of a challenge if you are using a wheelchair or powerchair. There are rooms to the left and right but if you are heading upstairs there is another door that leads to the stairway. The stairs are split over two levels with rails on each side, and there is another manual door to get into the upper floor corridor. My room was upstairs so not an accessible one, and it was along the corridor on the left. The door opened inward and required me to use my key card tap to get in. The room itself was a good size with a double bed and plenty of space either side. The TV was tiny and sat on a desk at the foot of the bed. I did not stay in an accessible room but I chatted with the front desk who told me they have two accessible rooms downstairs. Both can have the beds separated into two and both have an accessible toilet with grab rails on each side, rails in the shower, a red emergency cord and wet room style flooring. There is a hearing loop at the front desk and braille signage outside the front door, though not anywhere else in the building as far as I could see.

There are two accessible parking spaces to the right of the entrance with hatched markings between them. The markings are only between the two bays rather than on either side which is not ideal and could make it harder for disabled drivers or passengers to get in and out of their vehicles. EV charging is available at the McDonalds downhill. There are two charging bays that are only slightly larger than standard spaces. You pay by scanning the QR code on the machine. The chargers do have support arms which is a nice bonus. About 100 metres away, just outside the McDonalds, there is a bus stop where the B1 and Berwick Hoppa services run. Berwick upon Tweed railway station is a mile away.

Accessible Toilets

This review is about the toilet in the standard room. I was not able to see the accessible toilets in the two accessible rooms, and the one marked for public use was locked. The door to the toilet opens inwards. The sink is at an average height with a lever style tap. The toilet pan is on the right as you go enter. The bath has rails on both sides, as well as on the tiled section of the wall.
