Overview

My husband and I stayed at the Village Hotel in Glasgow overnight and it was a very good experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful and seemed very aware of disability issues. All the facilities were well placed and of a high standard. The bedroom had plenty of room to manoeuvre and was not high. The bathroom had a level access shower with a solid fold down seat and lots of rails. The toilet was raised but the wash basin was in front of the toilet making a front transfer more difficult. Two pull cords for the alarm were in the bath room. The bed was comfortable too! There is a pool and spa facilities which my husband used but I didn’t so don’t know what accessibility is like. He loved them!!

Transport & Parking

Blue badge spaces are near the front door and a plentiful number. We drove so I don’t know what public transport is like.

Access

All the restaurants and bars are on the ground floor. There are no steps. There are automatic doors to gain entry. Reception has a lowered section for wheelchair users. I don’t know if there is a loop system. There is a lift to the upper levels and it is a good size.

Toilets

Unfortunately the accessible toilet beside reception was out of order as someone had pulled the flusher off the toilet and they had only recently found out. The other toilet was further away through a fire door but a receptionist came with me to show me where it was and to open the doors. She offered to wait but I felt I would manage. The toilet was spacious and had plenty of grab rails and fold down rail. Washhand basin was right height as was drier.

Staff

They were all very welcoming and friendly. Offered to help but without fuss. The response to the bedroom alarm which was triggered by accident was impressive. Immediate phone call and someone at the door within a few minutes.
