Overview

The main parts of the grounds are wheelchair accessible, albeit a little bumpy in parts. Having a sturdier machine, I was able to access some of the more rugged paths but I saw people on these using the NTs own hire mobility scooters quite happily. There's lots of birds here, several ponds and red squirrels.

Transport & Parking

You'd need a car to visit. Loads of blue badge spaces , in fact the parking area near the admission hut is nearly entirely blue badge spaces. It's about 50 yards to the admission hut. Nice firm, Tarmac surface.

Access

The main area is step free or at least has wheelable alternatives. The main paths are good, just a little loose gravel in places but no problems. There are slopes to take you down to the ponds and these might give some people problems coming back up - however I powered up them happily with no help in a Power Cycle. Once you get further out, the paths become bumpier and some slopes a little steeper. The River Walk has. very steep slope at the start, then comes to steps so isn't really doable. The walled garden has lovely ramps but stay on the upper level unless you have someone strong to push you back. The Broomhouse Farm Walk is very rough and eventually reaches impassable barriers. Shop accessible but cafe had step. There's a tricky section in the woods where an alternative zigzag path has been installed to bypass steps. Great idea but this bends are a bit tight on wheels so help may be needed.

Toilets

Not used. Husband checked it for me. In main courtyard but not very central. Not terribly clearly signed. We didn't come across any other loos so allow for this if you're going to go further out in the grounds.

I would definitely visit again - in fact we went many times during our week in the area. Dogs are allowed in the grounds. We didn't go into the house due to our furry friend so can't comment on access there.
