Excellent
Wilson Cottage is technically not an adapted cottage but is accessible for people with mobility problems. It is clean, well equipped and ideally situated for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area. What makes this cottage special is that it is owned by a lady with disabilities and she has made it as accessible as possible without major adaptions. Although we didn't use our wheelchair indoors, we were able to access the cottage without difficulty and all of its facilities. If you are able to walk and climb a single step, this beautiful cottage in Devon is a viable option.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Access into the cottage is via one step or a simple ramp. There is plenty of space to move around the cottage and it's all on one level. Access to the patio area is by way of the patio doors which has a small lip to step over or via a small ramp at the side of the cottage. You could probably use a manual wheelchair, but would struggle with an electric scooter due to its size. The owner will be happy to discuss your individual needs and accommodate you if at all possible, I would advise speaking to Lisa before booking.
Parking & Transport

You can park your car outside the front door, It is then no more than 10 feet to the front door.
Accessible Toilets
Average
The toilet was spotlessly clean. Again, not an accessible loo but did have a grab bar near the toilet, grab bars and movable seat in the shower cubicle which was accessed over one small step.
Staff
Excellent
Lisa and Julian, the owners, live near the cottage. Both are very accommodating and knowledgeable about the difficulties people with mobility problems face. I am confident they will do their best to assist you and answer any questions you have about access.
Additional Information
Bridget can get out of her chair and walk a few steps, she had no problem accessing the cottage. She was able to use the shower as she was able to sit, the bed was at a good height and very comfortable due to the memory foam mattress. All in all, if you are able to leave your wheelchair, Wilson Cottage could be a suitable alternative to a fully adapted property.
