Overview

We visited during the Covid-19 alarm, so a one way system was operational and some minor roads were not accessible (these were mainly ones that were inaccessible to a wheelchair). Nevertheless we coped well with my wife’s wheelchair and enjoyed our visit. NOTE: Only open from April to October. Website: http://www.wimborne-modeltown.com/

Transport & Parking

Easy to find near the town centre. No on site parking, but a public car park is directly opposite with dropped kerbs across the (one way) road. (Who designs public car parks? The disabled parking spaces were adjacent to the exit - easy. BUT blue badge holders have to pay and the ticket machines are in the centre of the car park - up a steep slope!)

Access

Within the site, access with a wheelchair was easy - the worst was the paving outside the entrance/exit. Not suitable for mobility scooters because of narrowish paths and sharp corners. A couple of Small steps into buildings (eg the model train layout) but not insurmountable. Plenty of seats and picnic areas.

Toilets

Well signed and ramped. Shared with baby changing so manoeuvring the wheelchair wasn’t simple and the loo grab rail wasn’t really accessible. As usual, the loo roll holder was behind the seat!

Staff

Helpful staff at box office (even with Covid-19 there was no need to rebook) and very knowledgeable, helpful volunteer on site.
