Beautiful but busy festive light trail

Good
The Light Experience is a 3.5km walk around Bruges with ten light installations. It broadly follows a story of the origin of light and then it could be harvested, stored and used. The trail is easy to follow as it has blue street lamps to show the way. There are also guides to help with crossing the roads and to point out where the next station is. The route is mostly flat with a few very short hills. I did it in my mountain trike, which was perfect, as some of the route is cobbled.

The light trail follows a mixture of compacted earth paths, concrete and cobbles. The cobbled parts are mostly in the city centre section. All of the light stations were wheelchair friendly except one, where you could stand on a platform and stamp to create light waves. Most of the stations are interactive and I really enjoyed getting involved. In the city centre, dropped kerbs aren't as low as we would expect in the UK. I did the trail in my mountain trike but I've also used my normal chair with freewheel and that was fine too. Two things to be aware of: I didn't bring my assistance dog on this trip but I think the animals in the shimmering forest would have spooked her a bit, especially the wolf! They looked so realistic! Also, it was very busy! If you don't like being around lots of people, you probably won't feel comfortable.

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
We travelled by motorhome and stayed at Campground Bargeweg, a motorhome aire, which is perfect as it is close to the beginning of the trail. There are car parks around though and some street parking. The aire where we stayed has water and waste facilities and 6A electric hookups. You can't book but we arrived mid afternoon on a Monday in December and there were still some spaces. The aire is flat and I've had no problems with wheelchair access.

There are a few toilets on the route. You generally have to pay. We stopped at one that was €1 but it was attended and cleaned between uses, so I didn't mind.

The guides and other helpers we met on the route were very friendly, spoke several languages, including English, and they added to the atmosphere.
