Wraxall Yard. Dorset. Lovely accessible accommodation ❤️
This was the most beautiful and accessible accommodation I have stayed in. High quality and stylish decor, fixtures and fittings.
We drove through country lanes past thatched cottages to this quiet, peaceful, sensitively converted into accessible accommodation former dairy on an organic farm.
The car park with EV charging ports was level and spacious. I wheeled off my WAV onto a meandering path through a wild flower meadow under towering oaks through an opening into the courtyard beautifully planted up. Paths serpentined to our cottage, ‘Lynchets’. The doors are wide and there’s plenty of light filled space.
The living/kitchen area is easy to wheel around with a lovely table with room to sit at in the wheelchair. The sink, induction hob and work surface will lower at the press of a button. Fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher are easy to access and use.
There are 2 bedrooms in this cottage one with 2 Bella Sonno profiling beds (a different cottage has an hoist)and the other a twin/double. Each has an easily accessible ensuite bathroom one with a wet room with accessible loo, lowered basin and mirrors at the right level. The other with a bath and shower.
The window and blind in my room was easy to open and light switches with dimmers , plus sockets (by the bed including USB ports) were at wheelchair level. Hallelujah!
However the wall lamps above the bed were reachable with a switch but no good for me in the dark as I couldn’t find the switch! A pull cord would be better. I took my own bed side lamp!
The courtyard leads onto a heavenly boardwalk (in my case board wheel!) meandering through a wild flower meadow humming with bees, lovely views across the fields and trees, under oaks and alders towards a stream babbling below a huge willow with iridescent damsel flies darting about. There’s a sitting area here with a table for picnics. Thrush, wrens, chaff inches …the odd cockerel crowing (in the distance!) etc. etc. A lovely immersive experience in nature which I could reach independently. Very uplifting. 😃
In preparation I asked many questions ie. measurements for grab rail heights, distances …etc. Nick replied promptly and clearly which was so helpful in allaying preliminary anxieties for my particular access needs.
I had a truly wonderful time, as did the rest of my family. I thoroughly recommend this lovely place. 😊🌻🐝🌻
