Overview
I was using a power chair, not a huge one, a type that folds down when not in use. It is pretty much the same size as a manual wheelchair. I had to go to the X-ray department first and I asked for their accessible toilet. I was shown to this one. I think, but can't be sure, it is the only one in the X-ray department. It was properly clean, unlike so many I come across. The problem was it is a small space and built into a corner, so not a full square or rectangle. Without assistance from my friend I could not have got into the space and closed the door, also when the door was closed I couldn't turn round, not enough room, to lock the door. Luckily my friend stood guard outside. So I was in there, but had to somehow get from Wheelchair to loo and couldn't use the fold down grab rail because it was between the wheelchair and the toilet!. I just about managed, but then really struggled to wash my hands as the back of the wheelchair was against the sink. I sort of managed to lean over and wash my hands and then my friend had to manoeuvre me out of the space. I have good upper body strength and can just about weight bear, although I can't take a step, so I did manage, but someone else might not, so although Wrightington hospital is brilliant and I hate to say anything at all negative, if you happen to go there as an out patient I suggest using the loo in the cafe, which is fine.
