    Celebrating our volunteers

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating our volunteers and the difference you make by giving your time to support a good cause; our small but mighty disabled access charity!

Our work is powered by our volunteers. Whether you’re a reviewer, have taken part in our Access Survey, or hung one of our 200,000 Red Cord Cards, we want to say a huge thank you for helping us in our mission to make the world more accessible for disabled people.

The power of a disabled access review

By submitting a disabled access review, you make a huge difference simply by sharing your personal experiences of going out and about. Whether you’re trying new places, visiting friends and family, or popping to your local shop, every review helps someone research their plans through trusted information, try somewhere new for the first time, or go on days out with confidence.

Your experience is unique to you

Everyone’s experience of accessibility is different, which is why we love hearing from our community of volunteers. Our community helps us share more information - you’ve been there yourself and understand what accessibility really means, making you an expert in your own experience. According to our Access Survey, only 13% of participants feel confident when visiting places when they are out and about - you’re helping to change that.

    Making your voice heard

We’re proud to provide a platform where disabled people can make their views and voices heard. Our slogan, more voices, more choices, is brought to life by your disabled access reviews:the more people who share their experiences of access, the more options disabled people have.

    Toilet Warriors

Euan’s Guide is supported by tens of thousands of volunteers placing Red Cord Cards on red emergency cords in accessible toilets.. By ensuring the red cord remains untied and hangs freely to the ground so it can be reached in an emergency, our Toilet Warriors are making accessible loos safer.

Such a small action can make a huge difference to someone’s life, and we want to take the opportunity this Volunteers’ Week to say a huge thank you.

    Ambassador Network

Our ambassador network is a group of supporters who improve accessibility through their knowledge and lived experience, and give other people who are new to Euan’s Guide the confidence to get involved.

We keep in touch with our ambassadors through online and in person events, from going out for venue review to online meet-ups and attending national events. Our ambassadors work with venues on sharing and providing feedback on disabled access while providing a supportive network to those around them and advocating for access and inclusion at every level.

Here are what our ambassadors say about being part of Euan’s Guide.

“Euan's Guide is really important as it helps people of different abilities to check if somewhere suits their needs, helping people feel more confident. Being an ambassador is more than writing reviews, you become part of a community.” Karine, Euan’s Guide ambassador“Being an ambassador for Euan's Guide has helped give me the confidence to take on large organisations in order to help make the world more accessible! I find that they tend to take my concerns more seriously if I tell them that I'm a Euan's Guide ambassador. It also helps to make wider changes if you're part of a supportive, friendly network who are there for you.” - Karine Euan's Guide Ambassador

“It can seem intimidating at times being out there as an individual but Euan's Guide really demonstrates how individual change helps create collective change. By sharing our words and experiences we help celebrate those who go the extra mile and educate those who need to improve. I like to think that Euan would be smiling at some of the changes he's helped us all to make in a world that's sometimes needlessly difficult to navigate.” Karis, Euan’s Guide ambassador

    What our community says

“I ordered cards a couple of years ago and I am so glad to report that every card I have hung has made an impact.” Toilet Warrior volunteer“Not only do you give a voice, more importantly you listen. Thank you.” Access Survey respondent

“I find Euan’s Guide so useful when I’m visiting somewhere new. There is nothing quite like lived experience.” Volunteer reviewer
