About us
We are Euan’s Guide, the award-winning disabled access charity making it easier for disabled people to find places to go. At the heart of the charity is our disabled access review website – www.euansguide.com – where disabled people and their friends, families and carers can find and share disabled access information.
We also run the UK’s largest and longest-running Access Survey, and our Red Cord Card campaign has made tens of thousands of accessible toilets across the UK safer for disabled people.
We are an ambitious charity with a strong focus on technology, which means Euan’s Guide sits in a unique position – combining the pace and innovation of a tech start-up with the values and purpose of a charity. There is no ‘typical day’!
We have ambitious plans to grow and have secured funding for a Scotland-based Volunteer Lead to work with us until the end of March 2027.
The role
Volunteering is at the core of everything we do. We are now looking for a Volunteer Lead to help us take our volunteering programme to the next level.
This is a strategic, fixed-term role focused on reviewing and overhauling Euan’s Guide’s volunteering infrastructure across Scotland. Rather than just delivering activities, this role is about building the systems, pathways and frameworks that will allow our volunteer programme to grow sustainably, deepen its impact and extend its reach into rural and remote communities.
You will work closely with our two existing Volunteer Co-ordinators and across the wider Euan’s Guide team, including our Comms, Tech and Impact colleagues. You will report to our CEO.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to how disabled people across Scotland can access the information they need to live independently and participate fully in society.
What you will be responsible for
Strategy and planning
- Auditing existing volunteer recruitment, onboarding and support processes to identify gaps and opportunities
- Developing and embedding a new, scalable volunteering strategy that increases the capacity and reach of our volunteer base
Growing and developing our volunteer base
- Recruiting new volunteers across Scotland, with a particular focus on rural and remote communities
- Designing and implementing a structured ‘Volunteer Journey’ that enables volunteers to grow from active disabled access reviewers into more engaged roles within the charity including Ambassadors and members of the Euan’s Guide Advisory Group
- Working with Volunteer Co-ordinators to deliver training and support to new and existing volunteers
- Supporting the distribution of Red Cord Cards through our volunteer network, helping make accessible toilets safer for disabled people
Expanding geographical reach
- Establishing effective, high-quality volunteering processes in major Scottish cities before scaling those methods into rural and remote communities
- Identifying and addressing coverage gaps where disabled people currently have little or no access to trusted disabled access information
Impact and evaluation
- Measuring and reporting on key outputs as part of our impact framework
- Contributing to project reports and funder updates as required
Resources and communications
- Involvement in producing organisation and volunteer resources such as handbooks, welcome kits and digital content
- Ensuring materials are available in accessible formats including large print, audio and Easy Read
- Representing Euan’s Guide at partner and stakeholder events and contributing content to partner publications and communications
Skills and experience
We know that the ‘perfect candidate’ rarely exists on paper. If you think you can bring something special to Euan’s Guide, we encourage you to apply even if your experience does not precisely match every item below.
What you will bring to this role
- Demonstrable experience of developing, managing or significantly improving a volunteer programme, including strategic thinking and planning
- Passionate about access and inclusion
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver against targets in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to produce content in a range of formats for different audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience of building relationships with diverse stakeholder groups including volunteers, funders, charities, partners and community organisations
- Ability to work on your own initiative, recognise opportunities and find creative solutions to challenges
Desirable skills and experience
