I have rated 3.5 stars on this occasion as I had some difficulty using their facilities, the staff did all that they could to assist so with that I would definitely go back. With past experience I would give the Aquatics Centre a 4. I would recommend Aberdeen Aquatics Centre for families, fitness enthusiasts to those who use the pool for a gentle swim or for rehabilitation purposes.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
The doors of the centre are automatic so no fighting with heavy doors! There are clear signs to the lift and the toilets, if you struggle to see or need a hand with the doors there is a main reception that is always manned and the staff are always happy to assist. In the Aquatics Centre there is a small cafe to your left with plenty seats if you need to take a break.
Parking & Transport
Excellent
The accessible parking is brilliant, as you enter the car park on the left and the right is two full rows of clearly marked spaces. The are right next to the front door. There are many buses in Aberdeen that travel up and down King Street, there is a bus stop right at the main gate which leads on to a smooth path that leads you right to the main door. Overall the Aquatics Centre is very accessible.
Accessible Toilets
Good
There are several accessible toilets: one in the cafe area is always clean, it has plenty grab rails to allow a safe transfer. It is however a little tight for space is there was more than a manual wheelchair and a carer: anyone that needs more space for assistance I would recommend the pool toilets past reception. In the pool toilets the are various alarm cords, fixed and mobile grab rails- also there is a commode an a hoist system attached to the ceilin.
Staff
Excellent
The staff are lovely, they clearly know their job. They are extremely helpful when asked for assistance, most of them will try to make your experience in the centre or pool as stress free as possible.
Additional Information
I would highly recommend this place to every of all abilities and ages they really do have something for everyone. The only thing I would say is that the staff should really have more knowledge of the hoist system, if you are showering and can't do a manual transfer without a hoist to the foldable chairs in the shower, then you would have to sit on the commode. There is also a movable bed for either changing on or for those that can't sit up themselves to allow them to have a bed bath.
