Overview

I was surprised to read an article about there being a tarmac pass at the top of the cliffs and I’ve always wanted to visit so I decided to give it a go. We parked in a residential street giving direct access to the clifftop path instead of parking in the car park at Victoria Park as this would have meant a very steep incline to get to the clifftop path which may have been difficult. I was using my manual wheelchair and being pushed in it by someone else. The path was a fairly even surface and whilst not a particularly wide, it was comfortably wide enough for my wheelchair. In a few areas where the path was narrower, when people were passing us, they did have to walk on the grass, but they were able to safely pass without being close to the edge of the cliffs. We walked from the start of the path to a little way past what I think was needles eye. The only reason we turned back was because of time constraints so it would be possible if you had more time to go farther as as far as I could see in front of me, there was still an even tarmac path that would be wide enough for the wheelchair. If I go back again in the future and venture further I’ll update this review. We walked for around 45 minutes before turning back so even this distance was enough to get some great views and really appreciate the experience. I feel the paths would be suitable for a fit manual wheelchair user who can propel themselves, someone being propelled by someone else who has a pretty good level of physical fitness or perhaps a small/medium sized powerchair providing the user is very skilled at using the chair. Whilst it’s definitely not a starter route for a powerchair, a more experienced user would probably manage.
