Overview

I have just returned from a weekend at this hotel, and as a disabled consumer, it was a bit hit and miss. Something were great and others not so. Check-in was fairly simple and explains my room number and pointed me in the direction of the elevator. Opening the room door was easy, and a tap on the door lock with the key card to allow the door to push open, the door only opened 8/10 of the way, so it was a squeeze to get in the room as somebody had to hold the door open at the same time, upon entering the room, you could see it was the door closing device that was preventing the door from being able to open fully. The room was large inside and had a king size bed made up. There was a storage space just inside the door with some shelves and a wardrobe so you could store your suitcases out of the way. The bathroom was large and included a disability toilet and a shower over bath . The sink had a recess underneath which allowed me to get all the way up to the sink easily whilst in my chair

Transport & Parking

2.5

There are three disabled parking areas in front of the hotel next to a drop-off area. Space was taken and the other two spaces were full of refrigeration equipment and things that were being installed in the hotel, so we’re not available for use. Since the parking areas are on a bit of a ramp, my hoist was difficult to get me out of the car and into my chair.

Access

2.5

I let the hotel know my arrival time in advance and they put out a ramp to access the building as it is an old stone castle. Therefore a ramp was needed to access the three steps. I was in my lightweight chair with effect, wheels attached and I rode up the ramp on my ant, tippers, even though I was leaning forward as I travelled. We had to unlock and open the other doors has only one side was open, but the placement of the ramp meant you need them both open. Likewise inside the hotel, there was another door we had to unlock and open to allow us access to the main reception. I understand you have to close the doors behind you to keep the heating, but having them locked when they were expecting me was a bit of an effort and luckily my family were able to go ahead and open them for me.

Toilets

I only use the toilet in my room, which was fully accessible.

Staff

2.5

I believe the staff are new as the level of knowledge, the staff at reception had versus the staff in the restaurants were miles apart.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I had booked a package that included dinner, bed and breakfast, which was reasonable. They have two menus, one of Scottish Faye and one pub style bar menu. I ordered off the bar menu and the food was nice and hot. I think the staff were new and with an event going on in the other half of the hotel. Things were a bit slower than normal. I believe this was the start of the Christmas party season, although there was no noise. Breakfast wars, buffet style, and I was fortunate enough to have family members to assist rather than work my way through the area in my chair.
