About

Situated in the heart of York and nestled down an arched alleyway draped in fairy lights; Ate O’Clock Restaurant offers a wonderland like surprise upon entry. Once inside, the restaurant boasts indoor dining areas as well as a cosy courtyard, which has been uniquely adapted to ensure it is warm and cosy in winter and makes the most of the sunny days in summer. We welcome all types of guests in our restaurant, whether it be a romantic date, a catch up with friends, a family meal or grabbing a bite whilst out seeing the sights of York. We are also dog friendly, so the canine member of the family is welcome too.

Ate O'Clock Restaurant, York

Ate O'Clock is accessed via a flagstone passage leading from the street to the restaurant. This is very easy to navigate from a wheelchair. A member of staff will greet you as you enter via the glass door - be careful not to walk/roll straight into it like I nearly did! We were shown to a table in the courtyard area, which has been heated & roofed over, as this was the only accessible area. The passage to the table was a little narrow in places, but all of the tables are wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp in the middle of the courtyard; it's made of the same stone as the floor which looks great, but it is easy to miss. The staff were friendly & supportive. They moved a chair for me without a fuss, & when it came time to pay even offered me the bill (which as a disabled woman is a rarity, although I did make my husband pay for the food). I couldn't see an accessible toilet, but I may well have missed it. There is no nearby parking but several bus stops in the area.

Disabled Access at Ate O'Clock

Entry to Ate O'Clock is level, with a permanent ramp leading from our reception area to our main dining areas. Please note that our original dining room has a single step at the entrance. Accessible ground-floor facilities are located to the rear of our bar area and adjacent to one of our dining rooms. If you would benefit from being seated in this area, please let us know when booking or speak to a member of our team. This area can also be accessed via the front entrance of Social 8 Lounge, providing level access through a single doorway into the restaurant.

York is mainly pedestrianised but there is disable parking at the nearby Castle carpark next to Cliffords tower. Outside of the city centre road closure times (usually after 17:00) cars are able to pull up outside of the main entrance to drop off. We are also able to call taxis with disabled facilities for guests.
