Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings is an award-winning open-air museum and heritage venue in Worcestershire, home to more than 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings spanning over 700 years of history. As England’s first open-air museum, we preserve, conserve and share the stories of the Midlands’ built heritage through immersive experiences, exhibitions, collections and events.

A roll through time!

This museum has some incredible historic buildings that have been relocated from the surrounding areas and brought to the museum to preserve their history. I’m a big history fan, but so often, older structures aren’t very accessible to me in my wheelchair. But I was really surprised at how many places I could get into and the ways the team had made things as accessible as possible. And based on conversations I had with the team, they’re continuing to try and make their venue as accessible to all as possible which is wonderful. There’s a sensory garden with places to sit down and they also have a collection of telephone boxes from over the years and around the country which was really cool. Especially seeing a police box just like the TARDIS!

Avoncroft Museum is a 19-acre open-air museum of historic buildings. The buildings are linked by wide hard standing paths and there are numerous benches around the grounds. Pathways at the Museum are wide and relatively flat in most areas. The site is mostly flat, although there is one steep hill. Blue badge parking is available close to the visitor welcome entrance. Touch tours and object handling sessions can be provided upon prior arrangement. Some buildings have low light levels and low contrast features due to their historic nature.
