Disabled Traveller visits a small garden centre
Interesting enough visit, but just the usual garden products to see.
Its not really wheelchair friendly as difficult to get around, not enough space for chair to get around the narrow isles, and most of the grounds have compressed chipings and difficult to push chair along.
It’s a family run business spanning almost 30 years, offering a reasonably wide selection of
well kept plants, all home grown on site.
Barn Farm gradually grew as a side line to grow their plants, when in 1996 they gave up farming to develope as a full-time nursery, building a wooden cabin which became the shop.
In January 1997, new tunnels were erected, and two years later, many outside beds were planted with more tunnels. During 2002 they converted the grain store into the garden centre itself, and the following year, a garden furniture showroom was created, and all these developments helped them to receive a garden centre of the year award in 2003.
The plants are well looked after, in good condition, so will transplant well.
They advertise themselves as a warm friendly welcoming centre, but our experience here did not match up to their so called care, staff in general most off putting and stiff lipped.
The small Greenhouse Cafe opens at 9.30, and 10.00 on Sunday. Food is freshly prepared with a variety of home baked cakes. They are fully licensed, so a glass of wine may just be the thing.
The cafe is small, quite clean, but not a lot of room in there, and the outside area is rather crammed with table and chairs standing on clippings and difficult to find space to be able to use your wheelchair.
Sadly, we cannot recommend the centre to you, but if you can manage with a stick, then it’s a nice little and quick break point.
