Large park with car park, pond, playground, cafe and toilets

4.5

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair

Overview

This is an attractive park and though some of it is hilly, there is enough fairly level walking/wheeling to make it well worth a visit.

There is a large tarmac car park with an overspill which is fine compacted gravel, though the latter is a bit bumpy. There are a few Blue Badge spaces past the cafe. Google streetview goes right into the car park so we knew what to expect.

The paths are tarmac. It was fairly easy to get to the playground and the pond, although there was a short, fairly steep slope just before the pond. However I managed to push the wheelchair up. Unfortunately the walled garden is, I assume, at the top of a longish hill so we were unable to visit it, but again I knew this in advance. There are some seats beside the pond and alongside some of the paths but it would be nice if there were a few more. There are picnic tables on the grass near the car park, but not so handy if you are pushing a chair. The playground has an ability swing for a wheelchair user (see picture) and some basket swings. There is also an adventure playground and an outdoor gym. While this is a review of the park, it's worth mentioning there is a cafe called Wheatley's. We didn't go inside but it looked roomy enough for a wheelchair. It has tables outside which can be accessed by a ramp ( see last picture) but these are only for the takeaway part, which unfortunately was down two steps from the tables. When we visited it was open till 6pm and was still serving hot food.

Toilets

5

The council has installed a portacabin in the car park which includes an accessible toilet. I believe in the past there were no accessible toilets in the park. The toilet has ramp access and like most portacabin toilets has a vast space inside. It is also the baby change. There are rails on both sides and the red cord goes to the floor. The toilets were still open when we left at 6pm.
