Disabled Travellers great hospitality day out at Bath racecourse
What a lovely little racecourse, on the outskirts of Bath, well looked after course, easy enough for disabled to go and enjoy the excitement of the day, and if you can afford it, do try the outstanding hospitality dinner booking they offer here.
Arriving at the course was very easy to find, quite well signed, but its only one lane to get to the stands, so we advice you get here nice and early. The stands open two hours before
the first race, so get there this early, and then you can settle in to your seat or find a nice spot on the concourse ready for the day.
On this review, we have suggested you book the hospitality arrangement, if you can afford it, it’s around £120 each, but that includes everything, parking, entrance, fantastic 3 course lunch, disabled toilet facility in the restaurant area, service provided by very willing young staff being trained as part of the university’s support, and all in all, well worth the experience.
Here at Bath, we suggest that when you book your tickets, tell them you would like a table by the window, this way you can see the whole course, and people watch and see how things are organised, it’s very interesting. Mind you, when the race starts, everybody goes out on the Veranda, so you will not see the race unless you can join them, but there are TV sets in the restaurant you can watch the race on.
The food is served nice and early, so if you arrived as suggested two hours before the first race, then this fills in the time as you await that first race, and it’s such a pleasant experience, the food is delightful, well presented, with a fair menu selection, all served by young people being trained, in what we believe is an arrangement with local universities of Bath, and they try so hard to please.
The restaurant gets full, and it can be difficult for wheelchairs to get around, but if you warned them when booking that you have a chair or scooter coming, they will place you in the best spots, so remember to ask them for a seat near the window, they will do their best for you.
The experience of actually being there and watching the racing is quiet exciting, and you may wish to do as we do, we do not gamble at all, there is no need to do so, just pick a horse or two you think might win, and watch the race, it’s just as exciting, no need to waste a penny on gambling, we never do, but we really do enjoy the thrill you get from just being there.
