Overview

Historic aircraft & vehicles. Various experiences & tours offered. Very kind & helpful staff.

Transport & Parking

We arrived by car. Part of the car park is concrete, the rest grass. The grass is a bit bumpy, but we managed OK with the wheelchair. I get the impression that the staff would be happy to help if someone had a problem moving around the car park.

Access

3

There is level access into the main entrance, reception area & into the first hanger. To access the second hanger there is a ramp, but it is fairly steep & there is not much room at the bottom. I think the staff would be happy to help if someone had difficulty. It is worth mentioning that the disabled loo is in the second hanger. There is a viewing terrace in the annex, but this can only be accessed via stairs. However every effort was made to accomodate our wheelchair user, a picnic bench was placed just inside the hanger doors because this position gave the best view of the hanger, aircraft outside & made the most of the breeze on a very hot day. Our wheelchair user was offered the chance to fly alongside a Spitfire in a small plane & the staff were keen to make this happen if this is what they had wanted.

Toilets

4.5

The accessible loo was located in the second hanger which was joined to the first hanger by a ramp. As discussed above, the ramp is steep & there is little turing space, but the staff would help if needed. The loo is large & had grab rails on the back of the door, side wall & a pull down grab rail by the loo. The tap was fairly easy to use. All in all, far better than I had expected. I couldn't find an information on the website about accessibility which is a shame. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Awesome! Everyone we encountered was friendly & helpful. We felt welcome & as if nothing was too much trouble. One lady gave up her break so she could talk to us.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We had a magical experience. If you love aviation then you'll enjoy a visit here. It might be a good idea if you have a disability to call or email in advance to discuss any adjustments you may need or ask questions.
