Blackpool South is the northernmost station on the South Fylde line. It does not connect to Blackpool North, but instead trains from there go south to Pleasure Beach and beyond. There are no footpaths to the station apart from the stairs or long ramp coming down from Waterloo Road. On the lower level where the station is, there is only a large car park without any footpaths and the roads leading to it do not all have sidewalks and no way to get across the large roundabout.
Disabled Access In and Around
As a pedestrian, I came down from Waterloo Road. There is a sign there with the railway symbol and the station name. To the right of it is a long staircase with railings on both sides. It is made from browned textured metal and has yellow contrast markings on the edges of the steps. There is a platform bit in the middle after a dozen or so steps and then again a similar amount of steps in the same direction. To the left of the sign is a long cement ramp going down. It has a railing on the right for the first half until it turns around to the right. There is a railing on the left side there, but parts of it are overgrown. There are benches with backrests and armrests at the bottom of the ramp and opposite next to the station entrance. On your right when you head towards the station entrance are some information boards with timetables. There is more bench seating along the platform and there are two shelters. The station consists of one platform with tactile markings about a foot from the edge. I did not have a lot of time to look around at the station since my train was coming, so I do not remember whether there was a ticket machine. I know from other stations, though, that the Northern ticket machines are tall touch screens and you can press a little circle with a wheelchair symbol at the bottom of the screen to bring the whole interface within reach to someone sitting.

There are up to 6 accessible parking spaces at the station end of the car park, but they are on the opposite side, so some of the regular parking spaces are closer to the station entrance. You can drive very close to the station entrance for drop-off. The car park is very large and goes from the station all the way down to the Premier Inn. The nearest bus stop is Royal Oak (5, 5A, 5B, 18) on Waterloo Road, but there is no pedestrian crossing nearby if you need the stop on the far side of the road. The other bus stop is right at the top of the stairs and ramp. Waterloo Road tram stop is a 0.3-mile/8-minute walk or wheel away.

There are no toilets at this station.
Staff
This station is not staffed. There is, however, staff on every train that can assist you with boarding and disembarking. You can book assistance in advance, but I also got help when taking the train spontaneously.
