    About

Bute Park offers an extensive area of mature parkland within Cardiff’s city centre. It boasts a nationally-significant tree collection, impressive sculptures, an education centre, three cafes, and a wealth of horticulture and wildlife interest. The site benefits from good public transport access and near-by car parking. The terrain is mostly flat with good quality paths and accessible directional and interperative signage. Park interpretation also includes a narrated self-guided history trail which is hosted on the HistoryPoints website http://historypoints.org/index.php?page=bute-park, and is also accessible via QR code links on plagues at features of interest around the site (smart phone required). The park is bounded by the river Taff on one side and the Dock Feeder canal on the other, which makes for beautiful views across water. Cardiff Castle forms the backdrop at the southen end and to the north you can continue up the Taff Trail towards further parkland along the river corridor. There really is something for everyone within this large park which forms the 'green heart' of Cardiff.

    Winter Wanderland

Located on the east bank of the River Taff, this picturesque park is a lush green space that welcomes all. I wandered past Cardiff Castle to the park entrance, admiring the animal sculptures that lined the aptly named Animal Wall. They had lions and tigers, and bears – oh my! I entered via the stone archway at Castle Street to find the Pettigrew Tearooms immediately on the right. I noted that the tearoom had a ramp, but I had no reason to pop in. Travelling along the path, I wandered through the unlit festive light display – it was a little early in the day – interacted with the instrumental installations along the way, and enjoyed the frolicking squirrels. If the weather's clear and you're able, I'd suggest you pay this location a visit – she's a Bute!
