Carntyne station is a small stop on Glasgow’s North Clyde Line. Contrary to what Google Maps says, this station is wheelchair accessible – to a degree. The ramps to each platform are long and uneven. Using a manual wheelchair with a power attachment was a struggle, so attempting this in a manual wheelchair would be very daunting. Each ramp has a rail on either side, though I expect walking up the hill would be just as much of a challenge for many people. It does its job, but the climb and absence of parking and local buses make this a difficult station to recommend.

There are two ramps at the station leading up to the platforms, although they are extremely steep. Both ramps have rails on each side. I have had to reverse up them using my wheelchair power attachment. Anyone pushing a manual chair would really struggle unless they have very good upper body strength. These ramps really need to be levelled out to make them suitable. There is tactile paving at the platform edges, but the writing is faded. The tactile paving on platform one is much clearer than on platform two, which is quite worn. Both platforms have shelters with benches. Platform one has a ticket machine inside the shelter, but platform two does not have a ticket machine at all. There are also metal seats on both platforms, four on each. Overhead signage is clear, including platform numbers and assistance point signs. I didn’t see a sign for a hearing loop on the platforms, although there is a hearing loop at the passenger assistance meeting point. There are audible announcements. The ticket machine is reachable from a seated height, although it doesn’t appear to have braille buttons or extra accessibility features. There is no ticket office, no staff, and no toilets. Assistance can be requested by pressing the buzzer at the help points on each platform.

There is not much parking near the station. To the right on Carntynehall Street there is a long stretch of road with keep clear markings, but the kerbs are not dropped and are quite high in places. Lots of cars were parked there when I visited, but it looks like a park at your own risk situation. I did not see any accessible parking bays. The closest bus stop is 320 metres away on Shettleston Road where the 2, 46, 60, 60A, 364 and N2 services operate.
