Cartsdyke is a small, two-platform station that serves Greenock and the surrounding area. It has step-free access to the platforms, even if the ramps are quite steep, but there is no step-free access between platforms.

Access really is a mixed bag at this station, mostly due to the lack of a lift. If you are unable to navigate steps, there is no way to cross between platforms, which means you either have to drive, walk or wheel around to the other side. The entrances are 480 metres apart (if you don't take the stairs) and much of that route is uphill. There are three steps leading up to Platform 1, with rails on either side, or you can take the ramp, which is steep but also has rails on either side. On Platform 1, you'll find a staffed ticket office, which doesn't have a lowered or adjustable counter. There is a sticker highlighting the presence of a hearing loop on the window. There are stairs and a walkway over to Platform 2. The steps have painted edges, rails on either side and a landing part way up. The rails stop at the top of the bridge and resume on the other side. Platform 1 has a waiting area with a low lip. You might need to hop over it to enter. The room is basic, with only a wooden bench lining the wall, but much better than standing in the rain. The route to Platform 2 has a much longer ramp, with rails on either side and stairs leading down. The platform features a rain shelter with a high bench. Assistance points can be found on either platform, as can intercoms for assistance and train times. The platforms have tactile paving at the edges, overhead dot matrix signage and audio announcements. Hearing loops are active on the platforms.

There is on-street parking on MacDougal Street, which leads to Platform 1, but it's pretty much a free-for-all, with no marked bays. It was far too busy for me to park when I arrived. If you're going to Platform 2, there is a similar setup on Bawhirley Road, although there are some bays to the right. I'm unsure whether these are for residents only. There are no marked drop-off bays, but there should be enough room for a quick drop-off on either side of the station.
