Overview

This is an ideal small honey coloured Cotswold stone hotel just a few yards from the river Windrush (photo 1) and you drive your car over the main bridge next to the footpath bridge, and about 200 yards later and straight in front of you stands the Chester House hotel (photo 2) with it’s own car park for overnight resident guests (photo 3). The hotels entrance is to the right of the car park (photo 4) and you enter a pleasant reception area (photo 5) with a nice stone reception desk where you will be warmly welcomed. While waiting to book in to your room there are a number of cosy little nooks you can settle into for a quick rest (photo 6) spotlessly clean and inviting. Behind the desk area is the breakfast room (photo 7) with smart wooden and modern chairs standing on polished flooring, most impressive. Mind you, on a warm sunny morning you may prefer to eat outdoors in their lovely garden area (photo 8). During the day if you wish to eat lunch there is a cosy attractive dining area (photo 9) with attractive Cotswold stone walls adding that touch of class to the room. The bar offers a cool relaxing lounge (photo 10) with comfy spots to choose from as you select your drink for a mid day tipple, there is a nice selection of gins available as well as usual spirits of course. So while we finish off our Rhubarb and ginger ale for Veronica, and Mango and ginger ale for Dennis (photo 11) ywe will tell you a bit more about the hotel itself. First of all, note that this hotel receives many excellent reviews from past visitors, who all say the food and service is of a high standard, but this restaurant gets busy, so pre-book your table, the bedrooms receive very good reports, just one room, number 12 was one that you may wish to avoid for minor problems, this is regards a step down into bathroom, which is very small as well, some have struggled with it, so be aware. Also, the public toilet in the bar area has a step to get down, and a very narrow passage, so if you are confined to your wheelchair you will struggle. All other areas of the hotel are well reported on, so if you like small, cosy, comfortable and very clean hotels, this is one we highly recommend you thinking about if visiting the Cotswolds. The hotel also has special dog friendly rooms, smashing for your little friend. This 3 AA stars small hotel stands about 50 feet away from the river Windrush, with delightfully built stone bridges crossing the river, which has earned it the nickname “Little Venice of the Cotswolds”, and right at the heart of the village, an ideal situation for the day visitor, especially if the disabled traveller uses the hotels own car park, as entrance into the hotel is then very manageable. It has 22 nicely decorated bedrooms, all in a contemporary country style and with en suite facilities, with usual tea coffee machines, one on the ground floor is accessible and comfortable, and ALL AREAS throughout the hotel are non smoking. The hotel is of a country style honey coloured Cotswold stone building, well maintained, with friendly hard working staff. WiFi can be slow so watch for this.

Transport & Parking

The drive to Bourton on the water was a delight, typical lovely Cotswold countryside, and driving through Bourton is very interesting, lovely golden honey coloured stone buildings, which run alongside the river Windrush, ITS BUSY, BE PATIENT, ENJOY. A riveted small car park used for guests staying overnight, but disabled May use it if drinking or dining here. It has an easy entrance into the hotel, we experienced no problems.

Access

3

Just a small step you need to get up to enter the bar from the main little side street, but much easier from their own car park, and it’s mostly level inside, but the public toilet in the bar area does have a step to get down. There is an accessible bedroom on ground floor, but must be pre-booked.

Toilets

1.5

Just very small basic public toilet in the bar area with a step to get down before you enter toilets, but these are very small, so in no way would you get a wheelchair inside. The accessible bedroom on the ground floor is easy enough, and a very pleasant but small room, but you will cope.

Staff

All very nice and helpful, you will get all the support you need.
